
The Caithness Community Awards 2007/8 ceremony took place at Ackergill Tower on 11 February 2009. Stalwart volunteer Tommy Bean was named Citizen of the Year after having already been presented with an Outstanding Voluntary Leadership Award. He was recognised for his "incredible record of voluntary activities within his home community of Wick and the wider Caithness community". Among the organisations he has supported are Wick Youth Club, Caithness Canine Club, Wick Town Improvements and ENABLE. He is described as a fine, upstanding and modest man and one of those key people who make a group of people a community.
Seventeen year old Robin Falconer of Wick was named Young Citizen of the Year after also being recognised for his voluntary activity. Mr Falconer received his Young Volunteers` Certificate in recognition of his work as a Scout youth leader and as a member of YouthBank.
